Cancer Treatments

Radiofrequency Ablation: Using either an ultrasound or CT scan to guide the placement of a probe, the physician inserts a needle into the tumor. The probe, which has tines much like the spine of an umbrella, is inserted into the correct location, the spines are expanded and an electric current is passed through the tumor, killing the cancerous cells and a safe margin of healthy tissue. This procedure is currently being used to treat tumors of lung, kidney and liver cancer.

Liver Cancer: Chemoembolization catheters are placed in the liver sending chemotherapy right into the mass, which sends a higher dose without as many complications or side effects.

Radiation Therapy: Interventional radiologists place a small metal marker right in or beside the tumor, with the aid of computers, to assist in precisely target the radiation.
