The Joslin Diabetes Center education affiliate at St. Mary's is a partner of the world-renowned Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, an international leader in diabetes treatment, research, and education. Individuals educated at Joslin receive the benefit of millions of dollars worth of research.
How St. Mary's Can Help
We are here to help patients with diabetes management issues, to answer questions and to work with patients and their physicians to find solutions to individual concerns. Ask your doctor to refer you to Joslin or call our center to request an information packet. Once we have the referral from your physician, we can work to schedule you for classes or an individual consultation.
The Joslin Diabetes Center education affiliate at St. Mary's is accredited by the American Diabetes Association and is Medicare-approved. Most insurance providers offer benefits for diabetes education. Check with your insurance company regarding coverage.

Wendy Barker, RN, BSA, MA, MAEd
Wendy Barker, RN, BSA, MA, MAEd, is the patient educator for the Joslin Diabetes education affiliate at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
Barker educates patients on coping with diabetes, monitoring blood sugar, problem solving, diabetes medications, risk reduction, goal setting and recognizing, treating and preventing high and low sugar.
Heather Venoy, RD, LD, MA
Heather Venoy, RD, LD, MA, is the cardiovascular and diabetes nutrition educator for the Joslin Diabetes education affiliate at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
Venoy provides nutrition education, counseling and support for participants of the Joslin Diabetes Center education affiliate, cardiac rehabilitation and the preventive health programs.
She has more than 15 years of experience teaching and developing programs in public health as a dietitian and program support manager for the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources Office of Nutrition Services.
