Surgical Services include the operating room, open heart surgery, recovery room, open-heart recovery room, pre-admission testing, outpatient center and endoscopy.
St. Mary's Medical Center's surgical suite is designed to accommodate routine and specialty procedures including urology, orthopedics, neurosurgery, gynecology, cosmetic surgery, ophthalmology and otolaryngology and includes the only open-heart suite in the Huntington area. Our state-of-the-art surgical suite consists of 14 operating suites and two cystoscopy rooms. Our specially trained staff is devoted to excellence in providing quality care and is guided by the mission and values of St. Mary's Medical Center.
Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
The PACU, commonly known as the recovery area, is adjacent to the surgical suite. The PACU staff consists of registered nurses who are prepared to care for all patients, from routine to critically ill. If you are given general, regional, spinal or monitored anesthesia care, you will probably spend time in this suite after your procedure. Patients generally stay one hour after a procedure, but you may stay longer depending upon how quickly you recover from your anesthetic.
Open-Heart Recovery Room
St. Mary's Medical Center offers a state-of-the-art specialty area for patients who have undergone open-heart surgery .The staff consists of registered nurses who have more than 20 years of experience in caring for the open-heart surgery patient. Even though you are a patient in a highly technical area, our emphasis is always on individualized, personal care.
St. Mary's Medical Center Endoscopy Suite is in the Outpatient Center. St. Mary's was one of the first medical facilities in the area to provide state of the art endoscopy procedures and opened a new endoscopy suite in 1997, providing four procedure rooms for outpatient and inpatient cases. Procedures range from upper endoscopies, colonoscopies to specialized pancreatic and biliary cases. Pain management procedures are also performed in this area, including nerve blocks and epidural and cervical blocks.
Stereotactic Breast Biopsies
St. Mary's Medical Center opened its stereotactic breast procedure room in the Outpatient Center in 1996. These specialized breast biopsies are usually well tolerated and do not require an anesthetic, allowing you to quickly return to your normal activities of daily living quickly.
