Program Tracks/Options

BSMI

Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging: Students who successfully complete all requirements for a total of 124 credit hours are eligible upon graduation to receive the Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Imaging. Students may select an area of concentration in mammography, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), Cardiovascular/ Interventional, or Management. You will be required to submit all academic transcripts to both MU and to SMMC. Application deadline is April 1.

CREDENTIALED RADIOGRAPHER {RT(R) (ARRT)}

The Program offers an advanced placement opportunity for certified radiologic technologists who have earned an Associate of Science degree who want to pursue the Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging degree. Clinical tracks are contingent upon the number of clinical slots available. Current students have priority. Contact the Program for clinical options.

  1. Apply to Marshall University College of Health Professions. Ask for Marilyn Fox for information regarding Marshall University general education course work requirements for graduation with a baccalaureate degree. Download program application. Remember there is a $30 application fee.
  2. Must submit proof of valid ARRT certification with application.
  3. Applicants must be graduates of an acceptable accredited program in radiography, nuclear medicine or radiation therapy. JRCERT accreditation is preferred.
  4. Submit all academic transcripts to both MU and to the SOMI. SMMC graduates transcripts are on file. Be certain to identify the year of graduation on your application and any name changes. Application deadline is June 1.
  5. Note that you will have to complete ACLS certification in your senior year.
  6. 6. Applicants may be required to submit proof of recent TB skin test, other immunizations, drug screening, and background checks prior to any clinical rotations. Drug screening and background check will be performed at SMMC. The cost is $100. Fees are subject to change. Different clinical facilities have different requirements.

TRANSFER OF CREDIT

Transfer of Credit Policy and Procedure

SMMC- SOMI will consider individuals wishing to transfer into the SOMI from another JRCERT accredited program in radiography on an individual basis. Several factors that will be considered include:

  • Available clinical space
  • Students wishing to transfer from another imaging program will have to provide proof that they were not dismissed due to an ethical or academic violation (per ARRT Code of ethics). A letter from the Program Director stating the student was in good standing will be required.
  • Type of program transferring from (Medical Center, college, vocational, military, etc...)
  • Academic and clinical courses and competencies completed
  • Clinical hours completed
  • Applicants, who have successfully completed an entry-level imaging program and have sat for the ARRT certification examination, wishing to transfer into the professional level (4th year) must provide proof of ARRT certification, SOMI application and fee, and imaging program curriculum and transcripts. Applicants will have to meet all other requirements from Marshall University regarding general education transfer of credit and graduation. Applicants to the advanced level will be required to complete all general education requirements for graduation at Marshall University prior to enrolling in any MI course. The ARRT registration will accord the applicant credit for the sophomore and junior level Medical Imaging coursework. Applicants, who have obtained additional registration such as radiation oncology or nuclear medicine and have college credit for their coursework in the field, may substitute these classes for an advanced medical imaging track requirements. They will still have to meet the MU requirements for graduation before the University will award the baccalaureate in science degree. Applicants to the advanced program are conditional upon background and drug screening.
