St. Mary's Breast Center is a state-of-the-art imaging facility, and also offers the community a true comprehensive breast health center designed to diagnose and treat diseases of the breast.
Services offered at the Breast Center include stereotactic biopsy, which allows the surgeon to do a biopsy using a needle guided by a mammogram. This is an outpatient procedure using local anesthesia, causing little pain and no significant change in the appearance of the breast. The center also offers sentinel node biopsy, which allows the surgeon to map the path of a tracer from a tumor site to the first lymph nodes to which cancer is likely to spread. This helps to avoid the removal of non-cancerous lymph nodes just to check them for cancer.
A planned expansion for the Breast Center includes services such as ductal lavage and ductoscopy, genetic testing, a high-risk breast clinic, and multidisciplinary case conferences.
Dr. James H. Morgan, III is the director of the St. Mary's Breast Center.
