Spiritual Care, Counseling and Mission

The Pastoral Care Services of St. Mary's Medical Center recognizes the inherent dignity and worth of each human being as an individual with specific needs -- physical, social, emotional and spiritual.

Our philosophy and theology is based on the teaching of Jesus Christ. Caring for the sick is the visible continuation of Christ's healing mission.

St. Mary's Pastoral Care Services, in a spirit of Christ-like concern for others, offer emotional support and spiritual aid, comfort and encouragement to patients, families of patients and hospital staff.

Chapel of the Risen Christ

We invite you, for moments of quiet, to visit the Chapel of the Risen Christ. It is located on the second floor above the main entrance of the Medical Center.

Pastoral Visitation

A member of the Pastoral Care Services team will visit in your area. You can arrange a special pastoral visit through this person or simply make your wishes known to one of the nurses. Your own Minister, Priest or Rabbi is welcome at any time.

Catholic Sacraments

A Catholic Priest is available to administer the Sacraments of Reconciliation (Penance) and the Anointing of the Sick to members of the Roman Catholic faith. The Eucharistic Liturgy (Mass) is celebrated daily in the Convent chapel located on the east wing of the first floor. Communion calls are made between 10 and 11 a.m.

Prayer/Devotional

Morning and evening prayer is said each day over the Medical Center public address system. Morning and evening devotionals are shown on St. Mary's closed circuit television on channel 11.

Power Line

Callers of the Power Line will hear a short pre-recorded message of encouragement and support 24 hours a day. If you need a break in your day, call extension 3333 (if inside the Medical Center) or (304) 526-8900 (if outside the hospital).

Night Ministry

The Pastoral Care Service is enhanced by area clergy persons who volunteer nighttime hours for an on-call ministry service. The minister-in-residence will answer emergency and other pastoral related calls during the night.
