Breast cancer patient holds 'Zumbathon' to benefit St. Mary's Pink Ribbon Fund

Money helps provide free mammograms to those in need

Toni Karle, breast cancer patient and instructor of the Zumba dance-aerobics class at St. Mary's, held a ‘Zumbathon' on Oct. 20 to raise money for the Breast Center's Pink Ribbon Fund. Karle opened the class to the public and raised $590 in donations for the fund, which provides free mammograms to patients who are either uninsured or underinsured.

"It's amazing what people can accomplish when they come together to make a difference in so many others' lives," said Anne Hammack, RN, BSN, clinical manager of St. Mary's Breast Center.

Zumba is a style of intense dance-aerobics workout with Latin music. Karle's class meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 7-8 p.m. and Saturday from 11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. in the aerobics room of St. Mary's Wellness Center. The cost is $4 per class for the public and $2 for Wellness Center members.

Toni Karle presents a check from her ‘Zumbathon' event to Anne Hammack, clinical manager, and Dr. James Morgan, Co-Director of St. Mary's Breast Center.
