Women's Heart Program
Before the day is complete, twelve women in West Virginia will die from Cardiovascular disease. It is a troubling statistic offered by the American Heart Association - and one the cardiac experts at the Regional Heart Institute at St. Mary's Medical Center are taking seriously.
Cardiovascular disease, which includes heart disease and stroke, is the leading health threat to American women over the age of 40, and claims the lives of more females each year than all forms of cancer combined. Recent medical research has proved that women's hearts are different when it comes to the diagnosis and treatment of heart problems. While many programs and much time are devoted for men suffering from cardiovascular disease, there has been a disparity in the amount of time and energy spent educating women about their No. 1 killer - heart disease.
Recognizing the importance of addressing this major health issue, The Women's Heart Program at St. Mary's Regional Heart Institute offers a comprehensive cardiac education program designed specifically for women. This program provides prevention, diagnosis, and treatment services for women who have know or suspected disease.
