Will my insurance cover the procedure?

Most, but not all insurance companies cover the gastric sleeve procedure. Even then all insurance companies have different polices and restrictions on surgical weight loss. Prior to your first appointment it is crucial for you to contact your insurance company about their specific benefits and policies.

What will my first appointment be like?

For your consultation visit you will meet first meet with our Bariatric Nurse to go over the basics of weight loss surgery and breakdown of the program. You will then meet with the weight-loss physicians who will review your medical history and have a detailed conversation about the gastric sleeve to assist in determining your candidacy and any further medical testing needed. Lastly, you will visit with our dietician to discuss your lifestyle before and after surgical weight loss.

How long before I can have weight loss surgery?

After your consultation appointment it can take anywhere from 3-6 months for you to have surgery. This can be effected by testing times, insurance policies, and other medical conditions.

How long does surgery take?

The gastric sleeve is a quick procedure that takes approximately an hour to an hour and a half to complete. This time can be influenced by outside conditions such as body habitus, scar tissue, etc.

How long will my hospital stay be?

The hospital stay for a gastric sleeve is usually one night. The morning after surgery they will perform an upper GI and start you on clear liquids. If you are able to tolerate these liquids and your upper GI looks okay then it is likely that you can be discharged home.
