St. Mary’s Medical Center Marks 20,000th Open-Heart Procedure

Marshall Health Network – St. Mary’s Medical Center (SMMC) has reached a historic milestone with the completion of its 20,000th open-heart procedure, underscoring decades of commitment to advanced cardiovascular care for the Tri-State region.

SMMC has built one of the region’s most comprehensive heart programs, bringing together nationally recognized surgeons, skilled nurses, and the latest in cardiac technology. Today, patients from across West Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky turn to St. Mary’s Regional Heart Institute for lifesaving heart surgery and recovery. The milestone procedure was performed by Richard Heuer, MD. Dr. Heuer is part of the cardiovascular and thoracic surgery team, which also includes Dr. Nepal Chowdhury and Dr. Juan Bastidas.
