Certification & Licensure
Graduates of the program in Medical Imaging are eligible to apply to take the national certifying examination given by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)/American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
Candidates who pass this examination become Registered Technologists/sonographers in Radiography [RT(R)(ARRT)]/Sonography(ARDMS) various specialty areas including: Abdomen, OB/GYN, Vascular and Adult Echocardiography. Successful completion of the program does not itself ensure registration. Each student is responsible for familiarizing himself/herself with the applicable registration requirements.
The Medical Imaging & Radiation Therapy Technology Board of Examiners was created in 1977 to promote, preserve, and protect the public health, safety and welfare of the citizens of West Virginia by licensing individuals who use ionizing radiation as medical imaging professionals. The Board is funded by license application fees and licensure is required for technologists who work in the state of WV.
